Альбом “Darc circles” группы “The Devils” не полохое начало, новый стиль исполнения и музыки, в некоторых вещах они даже превзошли Дюранов, но во многом конечно отстают. В этом альбоме, который я не так-то легко достал (а это обошлось мне в 20 баксов) больше всего мне понравились две песни – “Big store” и “World exclusive”. Слышится очень хорошая и качественная музыка над которой (как мне кажется) постарался Ник. Даффи тоже не полохо спел, но мне кажется что в их песнях не хватает мелодичности, какие-то мрачные некоторые песенки у них получились. Но в остальном все отлично!
Интересно, думают ли они в будущем выпустить следующий альбом?

Может быть я и приувеличил немножко.
Наверное в новизне исполнения, можете со мной не соглашатся это только мое мнение. Как я уже сказал мне очень понравилась песня “Big Store” по моему эту песню можно сравнить с одной из самых лучших песен DD – “Come Undon” в плане мелодичности.
И та и другая песни мне очень нравятся:lol:
Но мне кажется Дьяволы внесли что-то новое в мир музыки, какую-то новую черту на которую будут обращять внимание и опиратся на нее только-только начинающие исполнители и группы.
Ну я ничего не говорю DD всегда были, есть и будут лучшими, и я думаю вы согласитесь
со мной на счет этого;)

Может быть, но эта мрачная музыка некоторым сильно приедается и надоедает. Но главное что бы это в первую очередь наравилось Нику и Даффи;)
Представь если бы все песни в альбоме были бы чем то похожы на “Big Store” и “World Exclusive” были бы такими же мелодичными и заворажевающими:music:
Они бы притянули этим простых попсовых слушателей, а не только любителей DD, а может быть даже появились на таких популярных телеканалах как – MTV и VH-1, было б очень приятно как им так и нам:)

Ты прав. Но для этого даже такую песню,как Big Store, им пришлось бы очень сильно раскручивать, а им похоже это лень, и их устраивает такой несколько 'андеграундный' статус. А потом у Ника есть ДД, а Даффи..ну Даффи сам виноват ;-)

Не-а, не виноват Даффи, что ДД достигли успеха без него. Значит, он был лишним. Дела пошли в гору с приходом Сая, у которого и вокальные дальные значительно лучше, и тексты в большинстве своем его.

Может, кто знает, почему проект был назван The Devils, а не как-то иначе? Насколько я понимаю, это была идея Ника. Зачем??? Зачем выбирать такое название?

Я имела ввиду...ну он смог бы стать сам по себе каким-нибудь великим музыкантом, раз в ДД не вписался, но не стал

Так как я считаю Ника талантливым во всех планах,
он талант:music:
Даффи же просто поет ито не очень, временами у него получается, временами нет. Да и вообще его в последнее время негде не было слышно.Я так думаю что Ник сам ему предложил поработать с ним, пожелел его вобщем.
Но в двоем они смотрятся не плохо.
А на счет названия группы не знаю - просто оригинально звучит, скромненько и со вкусом;)

2 winter rose где-то в Сети об этом читала: по словам Даффи сначала группу хотели назвать The Sea The Sea (то ли это была опечатка, то ли в подражание ДД), но Ник настоял на The Devils. Их сайт у меня не грузится, может, там есть более подробная инфа на сей счет.

Lily такого конечно я еще не слышал, но я думаю The Sea The Sea именно в подражание ДД был изначально задуман. Скорее всего не был принят из-за своей длинной составной на ангельском , хотя на русском смотрелся бы не плохо: Море Море (Морэ Морэ, это я так, от себя). Самих Дьяволов я расцениваю как Аркадию-2, но в несколько другом стиле.

Скорее у тебя не работает флеш-анимация, либо браузер ее не поддерживает, либо канал на аудио-видео перекрыт, т.к. сайт напичкан именно ею (Flash&ShockWave). Я уже говорил по этому поводу ранее, что у многих могут быть проблемы с посещением этого сайта. И что зря они только так сделали, надо было в таком случае без-флешевую версию делать. Последний раз когда я туда заходил, а это было примерно в ноябре-декабре вот что там было (к сожалению с энглишем беда, посему если сможете перевести как-нить оформлю в биографию Дьяволов на сайте, хотя это скорее не биография, а наверное - история создания группы):

'I have a very vivid memory of walking on stage at Barbarellas in Birmingham. Duran Duran were supporting a group called Fashion who were pretty popular then. It was a Friday night, still Birmingham punk times - early 1979 - and we walked on stage wearing our outfits that certainly weren't punk style, in fact I think we were all wearing women's clothing. My homemade synthesizer stand was constructed from an old Mechano set and I had banks of reel to reel tape recorders all set, hoping that everything would work. The punk crowd usually liked pogo-ing and spitting and were occasionally prone to throwing bottles but for some reason we had decided to begin our set with a slow instrumental - Toy Room To Tokyo. I started the song by pressing the waltz button on my antiquated drum machine and I looked out and thought, I'm not sure that people are going to like this. At the end of the song was polite applause as I waited for the bottles to start flying, Stephen stepped up to the microphone and in his most fey voice eloquently announced, 'this next song was influenced by F Scott Fitzgerald.' I thought, they're going to kill us and we launched into another one of our pretentious classics. By the end of it they were loving it.'

In a time before Duran Duran seduced the globe with instant pop polaroids including Girls On Film and Save A Prayer, they were an electro-pop act performing songs such as Lost Decade with a drum machine, clarinettist, tape recorder, guitar, synthesizers and vocals courtesy of Stephen Duffy. Formed in 1978 this was a fascinating period musically when the likes of David Bowie, Brian Eno and Kraftwerk signposted a future which after punk fell into the hands of a new, younger generation. The Human League, Cabaret Voltaire, Tubeway Army and Ultravox! (featuring the original frontman, John Foxx) were the pioneers, creating abstract, forward-looking electronic pop music out of technology, which had only just become affordable. An embryonic form of Duran Duran were also filled with the random possibilities suggested by the Sex Pistols and William Burroughs; Warhol and Guy Bourdin; the androgynous glamour of Amanda Lear and the sci-fi noises stuttering out of their newly acquired machinery.

Nick Rhodes: 'We were so hungry to consume everything that was out there.'

Stephen Duffy: 'The first time I ever went to Nick's house we listened to Autobahn by Kraftwerk, we watched the Elvis 1968 Special and played Elvis Costello's Armed Forces because it was the day it came out. It was exciting because we started Duran Duran at a point before music started repeating itself. Immediately after, what happened then was mod and ska, that's when repetition started and since then most music has been more or less derivative. But with things like Kraftwerk and Bowie's Low and 'Heroes' you just thought it was going to go more and more futuristic. Our voice and what we create remains true and unique just through being formed before derivation. We aren't plagiarising ourselves, we still have that spirit of 78!!!'

Nick: 'I think both Stephen and I saw punk as being fairly glam. All the people who had come out, such as the Sex Pistols and Siouxsie & The Banshees had a great sense of style. It was an exciting new movement and most of them were old Bowie fans. I think a similar thing is starting to happen today - no one wants to wear an anorak anymore do they? They want to display a sense of their own style and that's what we tried to do back then. People are fed up with looking like everybody else.'

Stephen: 'We had to be glamorous then because we didn't want to be Sham 69. We didn't want music to become as stupid as that, so that's why we got upon stage and wore women's clothing and danced around to F Scott Fitzgerald.'

The original Duran Duran line-up featured John Taylor, Nick Rhodes, Stephen Duffy and Simon Colley, their long-lost clarinettist. Duffy and Taylor met at art school where the latter already enjoyed some notoriety as a member of local band, Dada. After performing a gig with a synthesizer mounted on an ironing board Dada split and so began the short, transistorised history of early Duran Duran. A multi-media extravaganza featuring John Taylor's geography field trip slides swiftly followed their first gig at Birmingham Polytechnic. Stephen Duffy documented these performances on a cheap tape recorder, pocketed the tape and forgot about it.

Stephen: 'I had this cassette but I'd never played it. I have a civil service post-office desk that I used to do my homework on. So I must have put the cassette into that drawer, then the desk had gone into storage. In various places that I've lived over the years the desk would come out and in the drawer the tape would still be there. It was odd because I was doing a lot of writing at that desk when I bumped into Nick and then this box of slides suddenly appeared amongst some old equipment - they were the bloody geography field trip slides from the first show.'

Nick: 'Stephen was a little ahead of us in terms of songwriting. He had all the words and tunes for some of the pieces but when we all played together it became something else. Once I turned a rhythm unit on and John started making this noise with this guitar, we'd have something new and special whatever it was.'

Stephen: 'It's quite astounding now but I thought you could take great chunks of The Great Gatsby and sing it. The lyrics to Aztec Moon are from Mexico City Blues by Jack Kerouac. All I'd done at that stage was listen to records and read books. I had no idea about writing from your own experience. I bought my bass from a junk shop on Saltley Gate, I was so embarrassed I didn't play it and it's only when I got it home that I realised it was fretless.'

Duffy left Duran Duran in 1979, (Kiss Me a top five hit six years later 'was actually written in 1979 - a good year for me') leaving the promised, futuristic land of techno-pop for others to explore.

Stephen: 'I don't know why I'd left Duran Duran. I have no idea. I wanted to be Bob Dylan and I suppose I had to do everything I've done. I certainly don't think it did them any harm.'

The route back to Wagnerian electro-gloom began with a beautiful, reflective song Duffy wrote in 1995, entitled Barbarellas.

Stephen: 'It was so glamorous walking down that red corridor at Barbarellas and hearing the music of the club. It was like a Kubrick movie. I mean, we were 12. It was so red inside panning down the corridor…and then walking in there would be girls just wearing a shirt and nothing else.'

Nick: 'All the punk bands played there - I saw Ultravox, Blondie and The Clash. It was an incredibly inspirational scene.'

Stephen: 'I was thinking and writing about that time again, but I hadn't seen Nick since the Danceteria in '82.'

All it took was a chance meeting with Nick Rhodes at a Vivienne Westwood show in 1999 and The Devils were formed as a halo of flashbulbs illuminated the designer's Fellini-esque circus. The pair decided to go 'back to 1978 for two weeks', locking themselves away in a room with old analogue synthesizers and some original material from Duffy's tape.

Nick: 'We worked very quickly and long, long hours to try and keep the intensity. We surrounded ourselves with a few things from that period. I think whatever you grow up listening to in your teenage years form a large part of your world. I still listen to Lou Reed's Transformer and Ziggy Stardust was the first record I bought. It makes me smile whenever I hear it.'

Stephen: 'The amazing thing to me was that as soon as we started to play those early Duran Duran things again we were back to being the two people we were in 1978. We managed to capture the spirit in which the songs were written. Every morning we were walking down that corridor in Barbarellas.'

Nick: 'We had lyrics, titles, some pieces of music from that time. The first song we wrote together was Lost Decade.'

Stephen: 'I also had to try to remember what voice I used in those days - somewhere between Iggy and Howard Devoto.'

On Dark Circles Nick Rhodes surrounds Stephen Duffy's icy-sharp pieces of miniaturised observation with clusters of synthetic noise courtesy. It's a brilliant combination, achieving simplicity through camouflaged craft and building lush atmospherics out of monastic drum machines and post-punk electronics. Bowie, Suicide, Talking Heads, Kraftwerk and The Normal are glimpsed through the smoked glass of tracks such as Memory Palaces and the title track, while Barbarellas oozes sweet melancholia. Although rooted in 1978, The Devils have converted their past into a widescreen format thanks to a rich, modern production, in the process fashioning some great pop moments such as Come Alive and Big Store.

Nick: 'Although we paid a lot of attention to the retro sound we also wanted to make a record that reflected now, so it was finding that balance. We used a lot of analogue technology but at the same time if we really wanted to sample something we didn't say, 'oh we can't do that.' We thought, this is our area but if we need something else we can get it. Of course it's funny to discover that after 24 years those ideas we had in 1978 have fallen back into fashion. It's a good time for music again. I mean, there were great songs in the Brit- pop period but I wasn't excited by it. Maybe it was the clothes…'

Stephen: '... maybe it wasn't futuristic enough.'

'It's not a boutique, we want to sign other bands,' says Nick. 'I want to hear the next Nirvana or Sex Pistols.'

А знаете, что тут самое забавное? А то, что Джон Тейлор (ага, наш бассист) играл в группе Neurotic Outsiders, в которой принимали участие и участники Sex Pistols (один уж точно!).

Lily, не помню точно писала ли ты об этом тут или нет (я не нашел), но вот тебе интересная инфа на твою нелюбовь к Дьяволам (но, знаю - это точно было)! Смотрю я вот сейчас футбол и вижу щвейцарских болельщиков в облиции красно-белого цвета с рогами. ПРИЧЕМ РОГА ТАКИЕ, что НИК и СТИВЕН в обломе И как тут говорить про дьявольщину и богохульство со стороны НР и СД, и не любить/ненавидеть их, ежели есть в нашем мире страна, спокойно продвигающая этот жанр ?

К большущему сожалению я не слышала The Devils. Но мне кажется, что название немного отражает музыку. Хотя .... может я и ошибаюсь. Просто само слово" DEVILS" звучит как-то интригующе и загадочное.
