I had a couple Black Bottom Pearly Gates that I just sold. They were from the 80s, and I bought em from a Duncan Dealer. I dont think mine had anything to do with Ed Roman. I think some of the Duncans from earlier years just came with black bottom plates. The ones I had sounded pretty much like all the other Pearlys Ive heard. Maybe just a bit warmer, probably due in part to natural aging.
